Introducing 3D into an established fashion business is very different from teaching someone how to use a piece of software in isolation. The team needs to build the technical skills, but they also need to understand where those skills fit into their existing design and product development process.
In this training breakdown, I discuss a CLO3D programme I delivered for the J.Crew design team through INHOUSE. The programme ran over 11 weeks and was designed to take a team with no previous 3D experience through structured learning and towards applying CLO3D within their day-to-day workflow.
The focus was not simply on completing a list of software tools. It was about building confidence progressively, applying the learning to relevant fashion workflows and helping the team understand where 3D could support better product decisions.
Eleven weeks sounds like a relatively short period when you are introducing a completely new way of working, but successful training is not necessarily about covering every function in CLO3D.
What matters is identifying what a particular team needs the software to do, building the foundations in the right order and giving learners opportunities to apply those skills within relevant workflows.
Different roles also need different levels of knowledge. A designer does not necessarily need the same CLO3D pathway as a pattern cutter or technical designer, which is why team training needs to consider both shared foundations and role-specific application.
For me, that is the difference between teaching software and supporting digital adoption. The objective is not to make everyone an expert in every CLO3D tool. It is to help the team build enough understanding and confidence to use 3D meaningfully within the work they already do.
Want to go deeper into the training approach? I’ve explored why role, product category, pace and real workflow application matter in Why Bespoke CLO3D Training Works Better Than Off-the-Shelf Courses.
See another team-training approach: I later worked with Charlotte Stiffell on a bespoke eight-week CLO3D programme built around their own tailoring products, patterns and internal workflow.
