Getting familiar with the CLO3D workspace

If you are opening CLO3D for the first time, the interface can feel quite overwhelming. There are separate 2D and 3D working areas, multiple toolbars, the Library, Object Browser and Property Editor, as well as different modes and panels that change depending on what you are working on.

In this beginner walkthrough, I break down the CLO3D interface as it appeared in version 2024.2.344 and explain what the main areas of the workspace are used for. I also show how to customise and reset your window layout, manage files through the Library and find some of the panels and functions you will use regularly as you begin working in CLO3D.

Rather than trying to memorise every tool immediately, the aim is to help you understand how the workspace is organised and where to look when you need something.

New to CLO3D? Getting comfortable with the interface is only the first step. I’ve also shared the practice approach I recommend for moving from tutorials into real garment projects in How to Learn CLO3D Faster.

What I cover in the tutorial

  • The 3D and 2D windows
  • Docking and undocking workspace panels
  • Resetting your CLO3D window layout
  • Changing your workspace view
  • The CLO3D Library and default files
  • Linking desktop files and folders
  • Updating your Library
  • The History tab and 3D States
  • The Modular Library
  • The Ribbon and top menu
  • Creating snapshots
  • Creating turntable / 360° videos
  • Understanding CLO3D Modes
  • The Object Browser
  • The Property Editor

Version note: This tutorial was recorded in CLO3D 2024.2.344. CLO has made several interface changes since then, particularly to the Library and navigation, so some areas of the workspace may look different if you are using CLO 2025 or 2026. The core principles covered here, including the 2D and 3D windows, Object Browser, Property Editor and workspace organisation, are still useful for understanding how CLO3D is structured.

Using a newer version of CLO3D? I also have a walkthrough of the major interface changes introduced with CLO3D 2025, including the redesigned Library, CLO-SET access and changes to familiar tools.
